How Reiki Can Help with Chronic Fatigue

Chronic-Fatigue

Chronic fatigue can be debilitating for sufferers. No matter how much sleep you get at night, you do not
wake up refreshed the next morning and, in fact, it can be difficult to get out of bed. The causes of Chronic
Fatigue are not fully understood but it has been suggested that it can be attributed to a virus, psychological
stress or a combination of factors. Sufferers often turn to alternative practices to alleviate symptoms. Reiki
is one of the more popular methods used.

Reiki is a Japanese healing treatment used for stress reduction and relaxation. Reiki works by channelling positive energy into an individual’s body. Reiki masters and Reiki practitioners work on seven main chakras, or energy fields, in the body. They typically follow a series of hand positions on the affected areas of the body that need an energy charge and the body takes in the energy where it is needed the most. Reiki practitioners and Reiki Classes are available in most cities throughout the US.

Patients with Chronic Fatigue respond to the transfer of energy and it helps to alleviate stress, pain, chronic fatigue and allows the sufferer to have restful sleep, relaxation and an increased sense of well-being. According to an article by the International Centre for Reiki (2), one practitioner states ” I really believe that Reiki is a phenomenal healing tool and people with Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome should consider receiving Reiki training so they can at least work on themselves”. The article outlines the difficulty the patient had before Reiki and how she now practices Reiki on herself before sleep and feels rested when she awakes. She also uses it for pain relief and can feel the pain leaving her body during the Reiki session.

According to Purehealth.ie (1), after decades of disputed validity, the success of Reiki treatments are gaining respect among medical practitioners. Highly reputable medical facilities throughout America are now offering patients alternative healing programs such as Reiki to their patients. They are also analysing the benefits of these treatments on their patients and submitting them for review and compilation. The New York Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Campus conducted one of the first ever studies performed to examine the effectiveness of Reiki treatments on the autonomic nervous system. These are the control systems in the body that work without conscious effort, such as breathing, temperature control, heart rate etc. The results showed that the group who had Reiki treatments had a lowering of these autonomic levels. The testing team recommended that further larger studies be carried out on the biological effects of Reiki treatment based on the positive results of these tests.
